We love working with weddings inspired by rich cultural traditions. Pragna and Ben are another wonderful example of a fusion wedding - beginning with a Hindu ceremony that blended into an American one officiated by Ben’s grandmother.
Pragna’s family hails from Pune, India, and Ben’s from the midwest. It was natural for them to combine both Hindu and American customs for their special day.
The result was a deliciously vibrant and eclectic wedding that perfectly melded the personalities of both bride and groom.
Decor and attire was sourced directly from India. We brought Pragna’s design vision to life with lush tropical greenery including banana leaf, which held significance for her family.
Because the traditional apparel was so vibrant and rich in tone, the Bride wanted her flowers to lend a softness to the palette. We loved playing with a range of subdued autumn colors.
The traditional Hindu ceremony was held under a mandap, created for the couple by our in house fabricator and all around handyman, Andrew. The four sided structure was adorned in flowers and garlands. We made sure to include something at the base of all four posts for good luck. The simple but chic structure is now in our collection of rentals, waiting for a chance to serve again as mandap or as a chuppah.
Jaimala played a role in the wedding as well. Pragna wanted an updated, modern version of these flower necklaces for the beautiful ritual where the couple places flower garlands on each others necks to signify the familial union and the blending of customs. We crafted Pragna and Ben’s with roses, chrysanthemums and accent greens.
Simple but lovely bowls of tropical greens lined the aisle. After the ceremony, these transitioned beautifully to serve as centerpieces for the guest tables.
The grand floral moment / focal point of the reception was a lounge and photo booth installation. With the fantastic collection of Velvet Rental’s furniture as the foundation, we created a cozy atmosphere within the nook that served as a photo backdrop for guests all night long. Elaborate draped garlands in the soft colors of the subdued autumn color palette floated above, anchored by the lush tropical greens serving as backdrop. Giant Monstera, palm, banana leaves, and other tropical foliage was the grounding aspect of this look.
The event took place in late March at the historic Brassworks Building, part of Goodman Community Center in Madison, WI. In classic Wisconsin style, we awoke that morning to a surprise blizzard! Thanks to our meticulous contingency plans and commitment to teamwork, the storm had zero effect on the service or the flowers. We arrived on time, unruffled, and quickly set about painting the space in lush florals and greens. By the time set-up was complete, the snow had melted completely.
The look: A lush tropical feel brought to life in an impactful restrained way.
The wedding color palette: Maroon, rusty coral, peach, and muted yellow anchored by deep greens.
The flowers: Ti leaf, palm, banana, monstera - tropical greenery. Marigolds, carnations, chrysanthemums, chocolate spray roses and other seasonal blooms.
