Leah and Ted had to put their original Lageret wedding plans on hold when Covid hit the scene in 2020. They pivoted, planned an intimate Chicago ceremony instead and exchanged vows that year. Sound familiar? Like many couples, they dreamed of a carefully curated celebration and wedding experience that they wanted desperately to share with friends and family. So they started planning their non-traditional Lageret micro wedding sequel for Labor Day weekend 2021.
Meet Leah. She’s a brilliant art director with a keen eye for design. And she loves flowers, understanding the impactful role they could play in setting the tone for her wedding sequel. Leah’s vision was strong and she needed a designer and fellow artist she could trust to bring it to life. How did she feel about her wedding flowers before finding Atmospheric Floral? “Nervous!” she says. “I had a vision but was nervous about execution.”
Leah had already been through this process the year before, for her low-key exchange of vows with Ted. She had worked with another florist and was underwhelmed by her flowers on that first wedding day. Her wish list was simple – king protea, if possible. Toffee roses, bleached fern, some wispy grasses. She wanted to play with texture a bit; the surprising juxtaposition of strong sturdy stems paired with airy grasses excited her. (Us too!)
We hear you, Leah. We took her simple (but brilliant) wish list and created a vision mood board for her. She told me later that this was ultimately what made her choose Atmospheric Floral. “Also Mary Jo’s calm energy.” We were honored and delighted; she received comparable quotes from three other florists.
The look: Wildly elegant washed out color for a non-traditional micro wedding sequel.
The wedding color palette: toffee, whites, soft pink, pops of burgundy, and sage.
The flowers: king protea, toffee roses, bleached fern and ruscus, locally grown soft pink cosmos, miscanthus grass (pampas grass’ wispier cousin), eucalyptus
How Atmospheric Floral elevated their vision: The floral cloud that we suspended above the sweetheart table – what a thrilling floral moment that became! See how it’s a part of so many of the reception photos? It became the backbone of the vision and remained relevant throughout the entire event.
The cream city brick walls of the Lageret are stunning on their own. We created simple but mighty bud vase clusters of impactful flowers to dress the tables laid out by Olive Branch Event Co.
Leah’s rave review: “Atmospheric Floral is truly so wonderful. From first phone call to execution. Mary Jo was so flexible and reactive, all while remaining so calm!”
Aww, thanks Leah! Calm is our secret sauce on the Day Of. It’s not enough to create beautiful florals. On a day so sacred and full of meaningful details, calm, efficient execution and professional polish are just as important. (Glad to see how well Mary Jo’s meditation practice is paying off…)
